Methodology for the Selection of Indicators
Learn more about how regenerative outcome and capacity indicators were selected.
Guided by the Regenerative City Framework, the Singapore University of Technology and Design, with support from the Centre for Liveable Cities, conducted a review of indicators.
Drawing from leading assessment tools and metrics, the review prioritised indicators that reflect up-to-date scientific findings, have garnered international acceptance and are relatively easy to use. The process sought to benchmark frameworks and indices against industry standards and capabilities. It was anchored by five key principles.

To develop a set of practical, evidence-based indicators, we also gleaned insights from industry reporting. From utilising research-driven innovation data to target-setting for regenerative developments, the industry offers a pragmatic view of effective reporting that complements rigorous scientific assessments.

While these indicators for assessing regenerative outcomes and capacity are not exhaustive, it serves as a starting point for evidence-based planning that explicitly addresses urban interdependencies. Establishing a clear method of assessing indicators across outcomes and capacities can provide cities with a framework for understanding co-benefits over time.
