Close collaboration has always been key to our ability to push boundaries in delivering impactful real-world solutions. This is especially important in urban planning where there are multiple stakeholders and diverse planning scenarios. In this light, the Centre for Liveable Cities and Singapore-ETH Centre signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), on 4 October 2023, which seeks to foster collaboration and research in areas critical to building resilient and liveable urban environments.
Minister for National Development, Desmond Lee, who bore witness to the signing of the MOU, said, “This collaboration aims to build capacity in urban science in our agencies and the research community, enabling us to translate scientific know-how into actual strategies to improve urban planning. This will be extremely useful not just for Singapore but for many other cities seeking a science-based approach to planning and development.”
This collaboration is an example of focus on innovation and sustainability in urban development. The MOU will help both parties establish deeper collaborations for capability building on the application of the Science of Cities in the urban planning and governance domain. In addition, it will enable CLC and the ETH-Singapore Centre to share knowledge, experience, tools, and methodologies on platforms such as at the biennial World Cities Summit, Science of Cities Symposium, and other workshops and conferences.
The scope of the MOU includes:
Capability Development andv Training Programmes
Knowledge Creation and Knowledge Sharing
Academic and Professional Networking
