The Fifth Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council (SSCCC) Meeting

CLC’s Executive Director Hugh Lim led a delegation to attend the fifth Singapore-Shanghai Comprehensive Cooperation Council (SSCCC) meeting in July 2024. This year marks the fifth anniversary since the SSCCC was established to strengthen bilateral cooperation and promote partnerships and collaborations between Shanghai and Singapore.

At the meeting, CLC and Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing, Urban Rural Development and Management (MCHURDM) renewed a Memorandum of Understanding as co-leads of the SSCCC’s Urban Governance Workgroup. Under the MOU, CLC and MCHURDM will collaborate on joint research, co-organise conferences and knowledge events, and leverage each other’s networks for knowledge sharing and collaboration. The MOU is valid for five years and will focus on areas of mutual interest, such as urban rejuvenation and age-friendly urban planning.

While in Shanghai, CLC and MCHURDM also jointly organised a knowledge exchange session to foster mutual learning on low-carbon transition, urban rejuvenation, and housing. The CLC delegation heard from MCHURDM counterparts about Shanghai’s green buildings and the city’s latest waterfront rejuvenation project along the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek. From Singapore’s perspective, Director/CLC Elaine Tan shared about our efforts toward a low-carbon future. Group Director/HDB Choo Chin Hua also joined the session virtually and shared about HDB’s efforts to promote ageing in place and health and wellness in public housing estates.

CLC has had fruitful collaborations and close working relations with Shanghai MCHURDM. We look forward to further strengthening ties through more knowledge exchanges and participation at key platforms such as CLC’s World Cities Summit, Shanghai’s World Cities Day, and the annual Singapore-Shanghai Dialogue in Urban Governance.
