Established in 1996, the APCS is a biennial conference organised by the Brisbane City Council that convenes the region’s city leaders and leading corporates. The Mayors’ Forum, a key component of the APCS, is an exclusive, invitation-only event for Mayors, Deputy Mayors and equivalents to share knowledge, address city governance challenges and foster urban growth across the Asia Pacific region and beyond. This year, notable mayors attending APCS include Mayor Alex Yam from Singapore, the Chief Minister of Australian Capital Territory Andrew Barr, Lord Mayor of Brisbane Adrian Schrinner and Lord Mayor of Melbourne Sally Capp.
In his speech at the APCS Mayors’ Forum, Michael shared the key discussion outcomes from the latest edition of the World Cities Summit (WCS) Mayors Forum, which was held in Seoul from 24 – 26 September 2023. He highlighted that these outcomes – summarised into three subthemes of social inclusion and empowerment, identity and innovation – tied in well with the APCS theme “Shaping Cities for our Future” for 2023. His conclusion was that cities of the future are inclusive, have a strong identity based on culture and heritage and are hotbeds of innovation. Such cities are liveable and sustainable, and resilient to future trends.
In addition to his speech, Michael also moderated a breakout group discussion on “Cities of Connection”, which is one of the subthemes at the APCS Mayors’ Forum.
CLC shares a close working relationship with Australian city mayors who are regular attendees of the World Cities Summit and World Cities Summit Mayors Forum. We look forward to hosting them at the upcoming World Cities Summit in 2024.
