Synopsis
Singapore – then a 587 square kilometres island, lacking in natural resources, an industrial capital class and industrial skills - became an independent state on 9 August 1965. In 2012, Singapore’s GDP per capita (adjusted for purchasing power parity) was the sixth highest in the world at US$60,500, putting it ahead of all G7 countries. How did Singapore do it?
