“How you design and build the physical space would also provide the opportunities for bridging the gap of inequality.”
Arnel Casanova believes that the secret to a stronger and more sustainable city lies in its vibrant common spaces, which help to bridge social inequalities. Strong institutions, especially in education and healthcare, are also important for providing the opportunities necessary to develop a city’s human capital.
Speaking to CLC Director for Research Dr Limin Hee on the 3rd anniversary of typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Mr Casanova also shared that even in the face of disasters there are opportunities for cities to rebuild themselves to be more disaster-resilient.
